We are in the early stages of developing a Programmatic Development Program at SSP. This is a great opportunity for seasoned developers who seek a crag-by-crag approval over the standard route-per-route basis. What is programmatic development?
The programmatic development program provides developers with more freedom than the traditional fixed hardware application/review process. The idea is simple, instead of applying for new routes on a route-per-route basis, experienced developers are permitted on a crag-by-crag basis.
Are all crags open for programmatic development?
No, only crags on the “approved crag list” are permitted. If a crag is not on the list, a developer must submit a formal application.
How do I get a programmatic permit?
If you are an experienced developer, you may apply by sending us a brief resume of routes/areas that you have developed as well as a statement about where/what you are interested in at SSP. The FHRG will review your application and make recommendations to the park on a case-by-case basis.
I got a programmatic permit, now what?
Congratulations, you have now received a unique special activity permit that will allow you to develop new routes at specified areas! Please review the “Programmatic Bolting Guide” and begin development. Remember that all routes must be reported to the FHRG through this webpage within 2 days of installation. This is a unique opportunity to develop more freely please use your discretion and if you ever have any doubts about a route, submit a formal application. The last thing we want to do is lose this opportunity!
Do I need to renew my permit?
Yes. Programmatic permits are valid on an annual basis. As such, intent to renew a programmatic permit should be received by the park manager no later than November 15th.
